Evaluation
I
do not have any experience of media studies as I didn’t not take it for my
GCSE’s which then lead to me not having any past experience on Final cut pro. However
I picked it up quite easily so didn’t struggle too much to complete the editing
of my video. Also there are online tutorials which helped a lot with
understanding how to use this software at great depth. I have never used this
software however it is quite similar to a past software movie maker.
Story boarding-
I used a
story board before videoing the footage and editing my short clip as it allowed
me to plan what I was going to do and in what order. I have realised that
during this experience that using a story board is very important as it made my
work much more structured as I had what clip I was going to shoot then added
what audio would be used and which shot angle would be appropriate. My story
board was essential as it to recoding a successful clip as it included an order
of what I was going to be videoing separate clips also it indicated what I
needed to edit and crop when using final cut pro. My story board also included
writing which specified my angle shots we planned this so I could try and use
as much variety as possible. (low angle shots , long shot , static shots ,
oblique shots and head on shots) Also it allows me to know what audio to add in
where when I was editing my clip on final cut pro. In addition story boarding
speeds up the process as when it came down to editing we already knew exactly
what editing we were going to undertake.
Organising –
When I was
filming it was quite a simple task as there weren’t any specific / difficult
angles that I struggled to capture. However I was limited to the school
grounded so for example I couldn’t capture a shot on the edge of a foot path
for one of my shots so I had to compromise in that aspect. The organisation of
my film was very specific and ordered as I used a story board to plan my work
and when it would be film and what order it would be filmed in. Also due to the
technology of final cut pro with zooming in I didn’t have to move the camera
myself I could use ken burn or simply a percentage of zoom so it is a steady
zoom process. Our story features a kit Kat so in order to make it move we had
to add a piece of string however this proved difficult as when I was recording
I had to make sure the person holding the string wasn’t shown in the shot. But
this was proven to be difficult as the string didn’t keep the kit Kat facing
the correct was or swinging quite a bit. This lead to certain shots being quite
difficult as when the kit Kat moved the focus didn’t focus properly so may not
look very professional. Also we had to film in different places so the lighting
was inconsistent. The editing was quite easy to do from importing to adding
audio as there were plenty on videos available which indicate the steps to take
to complete the edits. Some of the edits were difficult to place as other
variety’s had to be places in different places to be added correctly.
Post-production edit –
During the
editing I learnt many new skills as I had never used this software before; firstly
I have learnt how to import my media to the software. Then learnt how to add
effects like black and white, slow motion then I learnt how to add the ken burn
crop and how to adjust it to zoom to wear it wanted, also I used trim on many
clips and I used the blade tool to get rid of mistakes that were recorded.
Furthermore I learnt how to add in audio by dragging it to underneath my chosen
area however when it is first places it want the correct length so I had to
extent and reduce the audio to get it to the correct length. In addition to
make the audio less blocked I learnt how to face the music so they faded into
each other without pauses. Also I used the flash back effect which meant I
needed to copy clips so they could be repeated for the flashback. I used slow
motion as well to add emotions to the clip; this extended the clip but I didn’t
want it to be too long so I reduced it down. Finally we added captions which
made it more understandable for the viewers also I think it may have given the
audience more of a connection with the kit Kat.
Confidence –
I feel like
my short clip was very successful as I managed to use as many effects and
transfers as possible to make it a much more understandable video. I am feeling
rather confident with it at the moment as it was my first time using it so I
think I could develop many of my skills as they are every vague at the moment
due to my lack of understanding of the software.
